A Handsome Victorian Painted Pine Chest c.1860-70

Photos

Description

The stained and painted pine carcass, with simulated crossbanding, having an unusual simulated marbled top and three-quarter gallery above two short and two long drawers flanked by similar simulated marble turned pilasters, the draws displaying the original ebonised knob handles, the whole standing on turned peg feet, and surviving in original condition from the mid Victorian period.

The chest shows some rather attractive wear and tear with scuffing commensurate with its age, but the whole is superbly original order and the drawers run smooth with the carcass structurally sound. One knob has some loss, and one drawer has some loss to its upper edge. The marbled effect top and pilasters are in sound order.

This type of chest is very much in demand, trumping its mahogany counterparts in the fashion stakes whilst comfortably nestling in boudoir or hallway.
