Victorian Mahogany Open Bookcase c.1900

Description

Beautifully proportioned, the free standing bookcase, in mahogany with stained pine rear slats, having four open shelves and a moulded cornice.

Bookcases were first introduced in the 15th century and with few changes along the way to their design, the history of bookcases is indeed a simple and short affair. What cannot be argued with however is that books are as still supremely valued today as they were in the time of the Tudors.

Fashioned on the cusp of the Victorian and Edwardian periods, this smart example is of such a size that it can almost be placed anywhere making it a supremely useful, timeless and versatile piece of furniture.
