Description

The hessian or sack cloth type child’s toy as a sausage dog, being straw filled, the squat elongated body with stubby legs, large floppy ears and naïve black stitched eyes with pronounced snout, survives from the first quarter of the twentieth century provincial France.

Remaining in sound overall condition, his legs give way a little as photographed, and there are some threadbare areas with some loss to one foot exposing the straw filling.

Because of their long, narrow build, dachshunds are often nicknamed the sausage dog and are playful, but as hunting dogs they can be quite stubborn, and are known for their propensity for chasing small animals, birds, and tennis balls with great determination and ferocity. Many dachshunds are stubborn, making them a challenge to train. This particular example doesn’t have quite the same problem.

Most likely provincially made by a local crafter, this is quite the definition of charming.
