Description

The beautifully weathered composition (?) stone bust in the high classical style showing a maiden with a pensive expression, her hair tied in plats, looking to sinister with a flat early nineteenth century style back, surviving from the late Victorian period.

The bust has a very well-established patina with weathering to it, as per the photographs, that one would come to expect from a piece of this age having been outside. There are some very slight nibbled losses but nothing detrimental. She is naturally very heavy so would need a suitable resting spot. It may be that this bust is in sand or limestone rather than composition.

This well detailed bust has the look of a fairly modern face portrayed as a classical goddess or nymph, possibly Artemis, with her dress and hair being very much high classical.

A real looker with a sublime patina.
