A Good Pair of Arts & Crafts Hall Chairs

Photos

Description

A lovely pair of beech hall chairs, with high tapering backs shaped to a Celtic inspired design, with an open circular top rail. The backs are beautifully hand-carved, the principal design is of a flowering plant with intertwining stems and leaves, the circular top rail with a series of stylised organic motifs. The stepped seats sit above carved legs with turned supports.

A charming pair of chairs, the backs are reminiscent of Celtic crosses, and the flowing, organic carving is indicative of the arts and crafts period, which held as tenets an appreciation of nature, inspired by traditional, “honest” pre-industrial periods such as mediaeval and Celtic.

The chairs possess a lovely blonde colour, have a good patina and quality feel, stand well, and are overall in very good condition. They would make a wonderful addition to any hallway, drawing room, or bedroom for that matter.
