Description

D.J.MASSEY & SON

This is a Sterling Silver Dutch Spoon with an embossed bowl depicting an tavern scene, with a waveform handle terminating in a Galleon finial.
This spoon was specifically manufactured for import and as such has a lion mark interrupted by a key on the bowl, the handle is marked with the letter G, which signifies the spoon was manufactured in 1916, and the Galleon is stamped on a sail with the head of Minerva whose helmet is stamped with an E, which denotes the spoon was manufactured in Groningen. The bowl is also English hallmarked as London Import 1916 with a sponsors mark for Berthold Hermann Muller of Wardour Street, London. Unfortunately the import hallmark was struck next to the original makers mark and distorted it and I can’t make it out enough to identify the maker.
