Description

A rare Silver Pair Cased Verge Pocket Watch made by D Smith of St Andrews in Scotland and dating from c1841.
Scottish verge watches are relatively rare. Therefore this is a nice collector's item, although it has some imperfections.
The outer silver case is in good condition. The inner case has some minor indents. It is hallmarked with the case maker's mark "JW", the Lion Passant sterling silver mark, the Leopard's Head London town mark and date letter "f" for 1841/42. The inner case with an old watchmaker's paper from D Smith, St Andrews.
The movement is signed by the maker "D Smith, St Andrews" and has the serial number 218. It is in relatively good condition, but not currently in working order therefore in need of repair/restoration. It is complete and can be made to run for a while if held on its side, but stops.
The dial has some hairlines as can be seen.
Overall a nice example of an old verge fuse pocket watch.
