A World War II, medal pair comprising of the Voluntary Medical Service Medal and the 1939-1945 Defence Medal. This pair of medals awarded to Caroline J Hendry.
The Voluntary Medical Service Medal impressed with the recipients name "Caroline J Hendry", the WW II Defence Medal unnamed as is the norm with WW II Campaign Medals.
The Voluntary Medical Service Medal was instituted in 1932 and was awarded to members of the British red Cross or as in this case the Scottish St Andrew's Ambulance Corps.
The obverse of the medal bears a symbolic representation of Florence Nightingale carrying a lamp, the reverse with both Geneva and St Andrew's crosses.
The medal was awarded for 15 years service with additional clasps for every 5 years additional service.
