A large Torquay ware commemorative mug by Aller Vale potterydating to around 1900 made to mark the Devonshire Regiments service during the campaign. The 'Tommy Atkins' Boer War mug: is of waisted cylinder form with a releif decorated soldier and South Africa 1899-1900 and on the sides marked 'God Bless you Tommy Atkins, Here's your country's love to you', impressed Aller Vale mark to the base. Notes The 1st battalion Devonshire Regiment was recalled from India in 1899 and the 2nd battalion mobilised from Aldershot, both arriving in South Africa later that year. The 1st battalion suffered 95 deaths and 85 wounded at the Battle of Ladysmith where Lt J. Masterson was awarded the V.C. Both batallions returned to Devon the following year. 14cm high, 15cm wide, 12cm deep
