A rare opportunity to purchase a large country house dinner gong. This Victorian mahogany dinner gong dates from 1870 and bears the Crest and Motto of the Anderson family of Waverley Abbey house. Waverley Abbey house has the distinction of being one of the first country houses to open its doors as a hospital in the First World War with its commandant Mrs Rupert Anderson being awarded the OBE.
The frame is of mahogany and has the Anderson family motto ' Pro Deo Certo' - to Strive for God picked out in lettering around the circumference surmounted by two Cherubs over the family crest a beaten metal gong being suspended therein, the whole being supported on carved tripod feet. This item is in good condition although there is some wear and tear as shown in the pictures as you would expect with an item of this age.
