Description

This impressive, silver 'capstan' style inkwell has a hinged cover, full glass liner and holes to accommodate five quill pens. The makers are John Grinsell & Sons. The piece was assayed in Birmingham and dated 1892 and is engraved with a family crest of a wolf's head. The glass inner has a star cut base and can be removed by releasing a silver retaining strip from the base. This strip bears a Registration Number 15199. There is some chipping to the top edge of the glass inner where it has been removed carelessly from the body (this is not visible and does not detract from the overall appearance which is very good) A small inner glass ink reservoir sits above the glass liner. The base is 9cm in diameter and it is 6cm high.
