Description

This pretty little silver vinaigrette was made and assayed in Birmingham. It's assay mark dates it for 1818. The maker was gifted silversmith Samuel Pemberton. The piece measures 3cm x 2.3cm and is of a rounded rectangular form slightly curved to fit comfortably in a waistcoat pocket. The lid has a floral border with a vacant central cartouche. It fits snugly but is a little loose when open. The hinge is good. The base has a pricked and wriggle work decoration. It is gilded throughout internally with good marks visible on both the lid and the base. It has a pierced grill which fits well. A small piece of sponge of indeterminate age is present. Overall it is in very good condition.
