Description

Very fine quality mid 19th century Japanese early Meiji period bronze bowl or censer on a turned wood stand,c1870. Of large proportion and weighing in at almost 7kg (including stand) , this is an impressive piece which would grace a modern or traditional home. The main body is decorated with 6 large identical panels depicting 3 figures by a traditional home and below the branch of a large tree. The rim is decorated with a band of Greek style key design and the base has a series of cartouches depicting 2 dragons facing off. It has lovely stylised handles in the form of foliage with fruit/seeds. The bronze has taken on a lovely rich patina and overall condition is very good with no obvious issues, even the base is original and often these are repaired /replaced following years of use.
