Description

Large Tibetan bronze Phurba on original stand,c1890. A Phurba is a 3 sided stake or knife associated with Indo-Tibetan Buddhist and Shamanic rituals. It is sometimes referred to as a ritualistic dagger for demon taming. This is a beautiful example, heavy (1.3kg), well cast and profusely decorated with masks, skulls, snakes, horses/deer, mythical creatures. It is topped with a crown finial. The stand is clearly original to the piece and again is highly decorated. Overall condition is good in line with age and use. It has just the right amount of wear and Verdigris to the metal which has taken on great colour/patina following years of handling and use.
