Description

Large late 18th century Chinese bronze figural incense burner, c1790. This is a fine example, heavy at 2kg and beautifully cast in the form of a Kylin / Qilin , or similar mythical creature. Kylin feature widely in Chinese and East Asian cultures and symbolize prosperity and good luck. This example stands proudly on a raised and pierced base and is depicted holding a torch. The decoration and detail to the features etc is fine and crisp. The bronze has taken on great colour/patina following years of handling with some Verdigris. Overall condition is good ,there may have been some historical repairs ,for instance the rivets securing the statue to the base may have been replaced , but all very minor and as you would expect from an example of this age.
