Two beautiful and highly decorative antique 19th century Japanese carved wood and bronze trays, c1890.

Both are fine quality examples that would display really well in any setting. The large wooden tray is hand carved in hard wood and heavy (1.4kg). It is decorated with a lovely central flower motif with foliage radiating out from the centre. The edge of the tray has intricate scalloped edges with the foliage continuing to the edge in relief. The smaller bronze tray is well cast and heavy (1.2 kg), with great decoration featuring rats carrying a Sedan chair and processing over a bridge with Mount Fiji in the background. The edges have dragon decoration. Both trays have aged well with great colour/patina.
