Description

Large and heavy (almost 1kg) 19th century Chinese bronze carp,c1890. Beautifully cast and composed with fine detailing to the fins, scales etc, it has its original glass eyes and has great colour/patina. Overall condition is good , with minor wear/Verdigris etc. If you apply pressure to the tail it moves slightly but I think that is part of its construction (the tail slots into a recess on the fish body). There is a small hole under the mouth which looks original to the piece so I assume this was to hold incense or to fix the fish to a stand?
