Description

An unusual pair of Imari pots - a hole has been drilled into each pot before glazing took place. No marks at the top to suggest they were used as lamps, therefore believe they were used for plant pots.
They are very heavy, Chinese or possibly Japanese, and well decorated in Imari colours. There are 12 cartouches around the neck, each displaying cherry blossom or a single flower. The central body shows a garden scene with rocks, a stylised house and scrolling flowers. Glaze can be clearly seen inside the drilled hole. Late Victorian.
Condition: good. Some general rubbing, particularly around the gilt decoration.
Size: height 23.5 cm, diameter 16.5 cm
