West persia. 2nd half 19th century. Bakhtiari carpets or kelleh''s as they are referred to from this period are exceedingly rare to find. It has all the features of true bakhtiari work,woollen warps and wefts,double wefts and traditional almost archaic motifs. Note the ivory ground border containing a variation of the repeating ''s'' theme. Animal head terminals relate this border to examples in luri/bakhtiari bags. Overall it is a very nice large example. Has low pile and wear,all ends and sides secured and is reflected in the price. 9 foot 10 inches x 5 foot 6 inches. 300cm x 169cm. At widest points. Wool fringes not measured in size. U. K post £30.
