Description

Large late 19th carved wooden wall mounted lion’s head c.1880. Impressive proportions 22″ tall and extending 12″ proud of the wall. Carved from pine, the mane, eyes and nose in deep relief and the mouth open and teeth bared. Hollowed out at the rear to reduce weight. A hole in the mouth suggests it may have served some architectural purpose (around the base of a wall mounted flag staff perhaps). Presented as found, unfortunately missing the lower jaw.
Dimensions: width 17″, depth 12″, height 17″.
