Description

Rare Georgian period mahogany Zograscope c.1800. Used for the viewing stereoscopic or perspective prints which would be laid flat on a table. The image would then be viewed via the angled mirror and magnifying lens which would give the sensation of depth to the scene. Could be used now as very effective make up mirror. Excellent example of the form with a 5½” x 7½” mirror plate within a mahogany frame with fine inlaid detail. Adjustable on a turned mahogany yoke with ball finials and brass tightening screws. 4″ circular lens within an inlaid mahogany surround which can be folded over the mirror to provide significant magnification of the reflection. Mirror and lens are hight adjustable on a crisp turned mahogany column and base which is weighted with lead for extra stability. Superb original condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
Dimensions: width 10″, depth at base 7″, height 24″-30″.
