Description

18th Century George III Chippendale design mahogany linen press made from the best of timbers.

The first thing to say about this press is that it has been converted in the 19th century from trays inside to hanging, but it has been well done.

With regards to the outside of the piece it is in un-touched original condition with very nice astragal mouldings to the doors with turned patera at the corners. Two of the long drawers in the base no longer open due to the conversion but they do retain their lovely original gilded brass swan neck handles. The bottom drawer which is still a drawer is oak lined.

The piece terminates in a lovely early type plinth rather than the slightly later bracket feet as seen on most presses. The whole piece is a gorgeous original colour and retains a beautiful patination.

Similar presses to this can be seen at Dumfries House.

SIZES 48" wide by 22" front to back by 78" in height.
The current length of hanging space is 54" but this could be increased by 6" if the hanging bar was raised up, which there is plenty of room for.
