Description

A very fine engraved gilt carriage clock, the back enclosed and beautifully engraved, with a shutter mechanism for winding. The repeat button unusually passes through the top glass. The gilding is as original, in excellent condition.

The overhauled movement has the original English lever platform escapement, and strikes and repeats on a bell. The movement is numbered 1855.

The white enamel dial has Roman numerals within a minute track above a smaller alarm dial.

Matching fancy trefoil steel hands.

Complete with the original leather carrying case and original key.

Overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.

Although the movement is unsigned, the case carries the stamp for Payne & Co, 63 New Bond Street, London. William Payne & Company, watch, clock and pedometer makers are first recorded at 163 New Bond Street in 1852, where the company remained until the 20th century.
