Here we have an attractive Edwardian Sterling Silver Photo Frame. The frame is oval and has a visible picture size of 5ins by 4ins. The silver front is moulded with deep sides and the back and strut are covered in blue velvet.

The photo frame was made in London by world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb and dates to 1905. One of the best known names in English silverware, the firm was originally founded in 1810 by Joseph Mappin Snr. In 1859 the company split into two parts which would become Mappin Brothers and Mappin & Webb. They were reunited when Mappin & Webb bought Mappin Brothers in 1902. The Mappin & Webb brand name remains a byword for quality and style to this day.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 120 years of good service. The velvet is somewhat worn as you would expect. The hinges on the backboard and the strut are in good working order and the frame stands securely. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The frame is 15.5cm / 6.1ins high, 12.7cm / 5ins wide and 10.5cm / 4.1ins deep with the strut fully extended. It weighs 154.3g / 5.4oz.

The hallmarks, on the side of the frame, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter k for 1905 and the Mn & Wb makers' mark for Mappin & Webb.
