Description

Here we have a good quality George II Sterling Silver Table Spoon in the Hanoverian pattern. The spoon has the initials A R over J T neatly engraved on the underside of the stem.

The spoon was made in London by silversmith Isaac Callard and dates to 1752. Isaac Callard registered his first mark at Goldsmith’s Hall in London in 1726. He was an important silversmith of Huguenot descent who specialised in spoons and flatware. He had a long and successful career right up to his death in 1770. Isaac’s son Paul Callard registered his own mark in 1752 also specialising in spoons and flatware.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 270 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The table spoon is 20.5cm / 8ins long, 4.1cm / 1.6ins across the bowl and weighs in at a very respectable 63.8g / 2.25oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The spoon is bottom struck, as you would expect of this period, and as such the hallmarks are a little distorted but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter r for 1752 and the I C below a star makers' mark for Isaac Callard.

Shipping in the UK is £13.00 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoon.
