Description

Here we have an attractive George V Sterling Silver Photo Frame with a 5ins by 3.5ins visible picture size. The frame is basically rectangular with scalloped corners and a bowed top. It is decorated above and below the window with floral swags. The back and easel strut are plain wood.

The photo frame was made in Birmingham by silversmith Samuel M. Levi and dates to 1918. Founded by Samuel Levi in the 1880s, the firm operated from premises in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter primarily producing silverware for personal use such as cigarette cases, perfume bottles, powder compacts, vesta cases, buckles, photo frames and card cases, although they did also produce some tableware. After Samuel’s death the firm became S.M. Levi Ltd in 1931 and ceased trading at the start of the Second World War.

Condition is very good, with just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 105 years of good service. The strut works smoothly and the clips hold the back securely in place. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The frame is 18.2cm / 7.1ins high, 13.8cm / 5.4ins wide and stands 8cm / 3.1ins deep with the strut fully extended. It weighs 179.8g / 6.3oz.

The hallmarks, in the bottom left hand corner, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter t for 1918 and the S.M.L makers' mark for Samuel M. Levi.

Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the frame.
