Description

Here we have a fine quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Four Slice Toast Rack. The rack has an oblong base with rounded ends that stands on four ball feet. The dividers are clover leaf shaped and there is a circular finger ring handle.

The toast rack was made in London by The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co and dates to 1906. Founded in 1880 by William Gibson and John Langman, The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company occupied a famous showroom at 112 Regent Street where they served a high end clientele with goods of the very finest quality. They manufactured at Clerkenwell in London and the Regent Works in Sheffield. In 1952 they amalgamated with Garrard & Co.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after around 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The toast rack is 9.5cm / 3.7ins long by 6.1cm / 2.4ins wide and stands 10cm / 3.9ins high. It weighs in at a very respectable 104g / 3.66oz / 3.34toz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the frame, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter l for 1906 and the distinctive G & S Co Ld makers' mark for The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd.
