Victorian oil painting box by Winsor & Newton

Description

One of Winsor and Newton's oil painting outfits from the latter half of the nineteenth century. This one contained in a Japanned box measuring 6 inches by 12, with hinged external and internal lids, carrying handle and clasp. Contained in the various compartments are over 35, well used, tubes of oil paints - all but one or two of period Winsor & Newton manufacture. The labels on many are illegible from age or paint smears but those that are include Vandyk Brown, Meglilp, Flake White, Burnt Sienna, Coelin Blue, Mauve, Cadmium Orange, Cedilean Blue and Rose Madder. Contents range from still soft and pliable to hardened (through the oil separating and partially leeching out). Whilst the paints show signs of much usage it would be, perhaps, enthralling to know who the artist was. One can only imagine ......
