French Tapestry – “La Dame à la Licorne: Sight” by Point de Halluin
A finely woven mid-20th century French tapestry produced by Point de Halluin, Flanders (Halluin, France). This workshop was celebrated for its faithful reproductions of historic masterpieces, crafted by award-winning artisans (Meilleurs Ouvriers de France).
This example depicts La Dame à la Licorne: Sight, one of the celebrated Lady and the Unicorn series, originally woven circa 1500 in Flanders and now housed at the Musée de Cluny, Paris. The allegorical panel shows the lady holding a mirror to the unicorn, accompanied by a lion, set within a millefleurs background filled with animals and stylised flora.
