A fun painted rustic wooden farmyard with animals, originating from Germany and dating to circa 1900. This consists of a farmhouse with an opening at the front and small fixed side annexes or barns, with a pigeon loft at the top. The house is painted green, with a gabled orange roof which has some nicely carved detail around the eaves and along the ridge, with a finial at the front and a painted chimney to the side. Around the house there is a yard, surrounded by a grey three bar fence, with a gate detail at the front. To accompany this there are a variety of animals, including chickens, sheep, cows, dogs, rabbits and pigs, with an oversized donkey and cat, and one very small white bird which might work well in the pigeon loft! There is also a ladder so that the farmer’s wife (who unfortunately only has one leg) could reach the loft and two trees.

This will still make a great toy, although it dates to a period before paint content regulation, so care should be taken around young mouths. It will also make a great talking point as a decorative piece and can make a good focus point for the collection of wooden animals in the future, or a good hub for an existing set.

The paint is in relatively good condition for the age of this piece, given that it would have been played with. The cream yard paint is relatively shabby, but the green and orange maintains a good coverage and colour. The animals are also painted, again with age-related wear and some small chips and breakages, but still with good colour.
