Description:
Here is a fine example of a superb quality antique George III oak dresser base and rack, displaying a rich oxblood colour, circa 1820, originating from the area of Talwrn, Anglesey, in North Wales, which is in excellent original condition. The dresser is predominantly constructed from oak, but also boasts the original rosewood knobs as well as bone escutcheons. The shaped rack consists of wide oak backboards (a sign of quality), with three grooved horizontal racks that can support plates. The top of the base also has provision for plate storage when the rack is in place. To the top of the rack there is a lovely straight protruding cornice. The rack rests upon the dresser base, on large strong shaped shoes. Below, the breakfront dresser base features a solid three-plank oak top with a central column of working oak fronted drawers flanked by a cupboard and a drawer each side. To either side of the dresser base, as well as either side of the breakfront section, there are quarter columns. The base consists of six working oak fronted drawers with the original turned rosewood knobs and two cupboards, also with the original knobs. The doors are decorated with twin fielded panels. It is nice to see that this dresser has all its drawers working. Quite often, similar dressers have feature faux / decorative drawers down the centre but this dresser boasts all working drawers, which is a nice feature.

All drawers are oak lined, hand dovetailed, smooth running and close flush to the frame. The top central drawer, along with the drawers either side and the right hand cupboard all retain the original working locks, with a working key. The rest of the drawers and the left cupboard door feature faux keyholes. The drawers and cupboards boast kite-shaped bone escutcheons. The dresser stands on the original shaped bracket feet. This dresser boasts its original polish and patination, displaying a rich oxblood colour, which has been created from 200 years of care.

This particular dresser came from the historical Mansion House on High Street in Conwy, where it had remained in the same family since it was made, until now. It is therefore the first time it has come onto the market for sale, which makes it a particularly special find.

This dresser is an excellent investment and would look superb in a variety of rooms from the kitchen, hall way or the living room. This dresser base would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.

Provenance:
This dresser originates from the village of Talwrn, on the island of Anglesey, Wales, UK. Talwrn is renowned for its community of woodworkers who made distinctive antique furniture from the early 19th Century to the early 20th Century. The pieces are typically decorated with inlaid spots, triangles and diamonds and finished with quarter-sawn oak, exactly as this piece is. They are highly sought after, decorative and functional items that would compliment any country kitchen or dining room. This particular dresser came from the historical Mansion House on High Street in Conwy, where it had remained in the same family since it was made, until now. It is therefore the first time it has come onto the market for sale, which makes it a particularly special find.
