Vintage Silver Pierced Bowl, London, 1973

Here we have a very attractive vintage Elizabeth II Sterling Silver Pierced Bowl. The bowl is broadly hexagonal in shape and is handkerchief shaped with the rim weaving in and out. The pierced work is in a rococo style and the bowl sits on a stepped pedestal base.
The bowl could be used to hold sweets, nuts or snacks or would be a very decorative addition to a dressing table.
The bowl is made in London in 1973 but unfortunately the makers\' mark has been largely rubbed away and we haven\'t been able to decipher it. What we can say is that this is a very good quality bowl made in a heavy gauge of silver.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and no damage to the delicate pierced sides. There is simply the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after nearly 50 years of service.
The bowl is a good size, being 14.5cm / 5.75ins across the top and standing 5.2cm / 2ins high. Despite the pierced sides, it weighs in at a very substantial 144.1g / 5.08oz, showing what a good gauge of silver it is made in.
Apart from the makers\' mark, the hallmarks are crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard\'s head assay mark for London and the date letter S for 1973.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the bowl.
