Vintage Silver Galleried Bottle Coaster, WEV, 1990
This is a very smart Vintage Sterling Silver Galleried Bottle Coaster. The coaster has a turned wooden base with a central silver button and a green baize covering on the underside. This is surrounded by the silver gallery which is pierced in a geometric pattern.
The bottle coaster was made in London by WEV Silver and dates to 1990. There is very little information about WEV but they were active from the early 1970s into the early 2000s and their mark is most comonly seen on bottle coasters.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no damage to the pierced gallery and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bottle coaster is 12.7cm / 5ins in diameter and stands 3.6cm / 1.4ins high. It weighs in at 130.8g / 4.6oz.
The hallmarks, on the bottom rim, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter Q for 1990 and W.E.V. makers' mark for WEV Silver.
