Vintage Shipwright's Tool Chest, English, Cedar

This is a vintage shipwright's tool chest. An English, cedar and pine craftsman's work trunk, dating to the mid 20th century, circa 1940.
Wonderful maritime charm, offering great storage or as a distinctive coffee table
Displays a desirable aged patina with light service wear, commensurate with age
Ebonised pine exterior offers deep black hues, with stout steel straps to corners
Clean, bright cedar interior beams warm caramel hues upon opening
Fascinating, inset One Shilling coin to the lid, dated to 1947
Deep lid opens upwards, coming to rest upon a rear brace
Removable tool tray insert, sliding freely to aid access to the lower trunk space
Additional rotating tool rests adorn the inside of the lid
Engraved to the side and beneath the lid edge with 'Plymouth Docks, 1943'
Stencilled fascia reads B.R. Tucker, Shipwright - M.C.D. 22604
Dressed with a diamond-shape lock escutcheon — in working order, key present
Superb, heavy gauge rope handles set within demi-lune keepers to either side
This is an excellent vintage shipwright's tool chest, with a delightfully weathered maritime appearance and useful, clean storage. Would also grace a living room with distinction. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
