Vintage Crystal Decanter with Silver Overlay, Porto
Here we have a beautiful Vintage Cut Crystal Decanter with an ornate Sterling Silver overlay. The square decanter has chamfered corners and a star cut base. The top and neck are faceted as is the spherical stopper. The silver overlay covers all four sides and features flowers and ribbon garlands descending to baskets of fruit. It is a very eyecatching piece.
The decanter was made in Portugal and assayed in the city of Porto in the late 1980s or early 1990s. There is a very small makers' mark on the silver but we have not as yet been able to identify it.
Condition is extremely good, with no chips or cracks in the crystal, no dings, dents or damage to the silver and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would anticipate with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The decanter is 21cm / 8.25ins high and 8.3cm / 3.25ins square. It weighs in at a hefty 1.3kg / 45.8oz.
The hallmarks, on the top right hand corner of one side, are very small but can be read with a magnifier. They show the seahorse above 925 in a straight sided frame, which shows that it is Sterling Silver (925/1000 grade), made for export and assayed in the city of Porto. It has a separate 925 stamp, the international 925 and scales stamp and the makers' mark that we have not been able to identify.
Shipping in the UK is £17.00 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value and weight of the decanter.
