Vintage Biscuit Tin with Brass Lid, Jacob & Co
This is a fun Vintage Biscuit Tin with a brass lid. The tin is shaped as a wooden coffer with wood effect decoration all around the body. The brass lid has an embossed rural design of a man returning home to his family after a successful hunt.
The tin was made for Jacob & Co and is marked Jacob & Co's Biscuits on the underside of the base. It dates to between the 1930s and 1950s. Jacob's was founded in Waterford, Ireland in 1851 but moved to Dublin the following year. They later opened a factory in Liverpool and in the 1920s the UK and Irish companies became separate entities. Today the company is best known for crackers and savoury snacks such as twiglets but historically produced sweet biscuits as well.
Following its use for biscuits, the tin has clearly been used for storage of various bits and pieces and has the letters J.H. scratched on the underside of the lid. Despite this the outside of the box is in good condition, the lid shuts closed securely and the hinges are in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The biscuit tin is 18.9cm / 7.4ins wide, 11cm / 4.3ins deep and 11cm / 4.3ins high. It weighs 302g / 10.6oz.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
