Victorian Silver Egg Spoon, Wm. Pope, Exeter, 1841

This is a good quality early Victorian Sterling Silver Egg Spoon in the traditional Fiddle pattern. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind. Egg spoons first appeared in the late 1700s and were made up until the early 20th century.
The egg spoon is well made in a good gauge of silver by William Pope of Plymouth and assayed in Exeter in 1841. William Pope was a specialist spoon maker in Plymouth between 1830 and 1882, when the Exeter assay office closed, although all his known pieces are dated between 1830 and 1860.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only the most superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 180 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 13.3cm / 5.25ins long and weighs a very respectable 17.8g / 0.62oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towered wall assay mark for Exeter, the Gothic date letter E for 1841, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the WP makers\' mark for William Pope.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
