Victorian Silver Caddy Spoon, London, 1849

This is a good quality early Victorian Sterling Silver Caddy Spoon in the ever-popular Fiddle Pattern. The spoon was made in London by noted silversmith William R. Smily and dates to 1849. It has the classic Fiddle Pattern shape stem with the broad bowl required of a caddy spoon. There is no personalisation or engraving of any kind making this ideal for moving on to a new home. The hallmarks on the reverse of the stem are well struck and very clear to read.
The Caddy Spoon is in very good overall condition with no dings or dents and only minimal wear and tear, indeed rather less than you would expect of an item that is 170 years old. It is perfect for modern use with the growing trend of returning to loose leaf tea, or would make a good addition to any collection. Please make sure to view all the photos.
The spoon is 9.5cm long and weighs a respectable 14.9g of solid sterling silver.
The hallmarks are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the gothic date letter "O" for 1849, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the WRS makers' mark for William R. Smily.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
