Victorian Silver Brandy Warmer, Atkin Bros, 1898

Here we have a handsome late Victorian Sterling Silver Brandy Warming Pan. The warmer has a cauldron shaped bowl with a pouring lip to one side and standing on three peg feet. A black turned handle is fixed into the silver shaft. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The brandy warmer was made in Sheffield by Atkin Brothers and dates to 1898. Tracing its roots back to Thomas Law in the mid-18th century, the Atkin family took sole control of the business in 1840, first as Henry Atkin & Co and then from 1853 as Atkin Brothers. The firm manufactured both silverware and electroplate in Sheffield and also had a London showroom. They ceased trading in 1958.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents in the silver and no damage to the handle, just the minimal superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 125 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The brandy warmer is 15cm / 5.9ins from the front of the bowl to the tip of the handle, 6cm / 2.3ins across the bowl and stands 9.8cm / 3.8ins high. It weighs 65.1g /2.3oz.
The hallmarks, on the outside of the body near the handle, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter f for 1898 and the H A makers' mark for Harry Atkin of Atkin Brothers.
Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the brandy warmer.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
