A fine and charming oil on canvas painting depicting a farmer waiting for a ferry boat. The scene is painted in fine detail and to a technically high level. The farmer waits on the jetty looking out to the ferry with his dog at his side and his cow waiting patiently behind him. The painting is not signed sadly as is often the case with these commercial slightly comic works. The style of the work means that it is quite possibly Irish in origin. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is mounted in a period frame with gilt slip. C.1880.
