Summary Description:
Here is a stunning antique English Victorian gothic pitch pine and ebony four-piece bedroom suite, which includes a bed, dressing table, bedside and wardrobe, circa 1890, in excellent original complete condition. The suite is constructed from fabulous solid pitch pine, with decorative ebony mouldings. This suite boasts classic Gothic styling throughout this is visible in the linen fold panels on the bed andthe mirror frame pediment on the dressing table. This is possibly the best quality and most comprehensive Victorian bedroom suite we have ever come across, boasting fabulous English craftsmanship, all handmade, which is in excellent original condition. This is a complete Victorian Gothic suite, which is not missing any of its sections. It’s extremely rare to find suites of this quality, which are complete, and haven’t had sections sold off separately.
Bed:
The suite includes an antique English Victorian pitch pine 4ft 6” wide bed, circa 1890, in excellent original condition. This bed fits a standard UK double size mattress (4ft 6” wide by 6ft 3” long). The tall headboard comprises a straight, moulded top rail, below which are four linenfold carved panels, exhibiting stunning grain configurations and framed with ebony. Supporting the headboard is two turned, carved column supports. Below, the supports rest on sturdy octagonal legs. The legs are connected via a stretcher below the main headboard, for additional strength. Two metal angle irons bolt in place to join the headboard to the footboard. The footboard features a straight moulded top rail, with a fielded panel below, incorporating geometric triangular pattern ebony inlay. Octagonal legs support the footboard. All four legs rest on their original mug castors. The bed dismantles into four sections for easy transport and easy access into your house.
Bedside:
The bedside cabinet boasts a moulded top with ebonised detail and angled corners this design is also reflected in the plinths. Additionally, the top includes an up stand to the rear, to prevent items from rolling off the back. The bedside features an internal compartment that comprises two removable shelves. The door retains its original triangular brass handle, and escutcheon with faux keyhole, which displays an attractive geometric design. The door also boasts an inset panel with moulded edge. The bedside stands on its original top quality angled corner pine plinths with ebonised detail. The bedside is constructed of top quality pitch pine.
Dressing Table:
The dressing table boasts a wonderful design, with an attractive Gothic shaped mirror. The mirror is supported either side by curved supports, which are topped by turned finials. The mirror angle can be adjusted to suit your requirements. Below the mirror, there is a central sunken well, flanked by the two pedestals, which feature angled corners, moulded tops and plinths and exhibits a stepped design. The stepped design comprises two smaller drawers above four graduated drawers. Below the sunken well is a further hidden drawer. All drawers are working, close flush to the frame, retain their original knobs and feature hand dovetail construction. Below the central secret drawer is a panelled backboard. The dressing table boasts ebonised detail throughout, present in the finials and all the mouldings, including the drawers. The dressing table stands on the original plinths. Vertical supports secure the rear of the dressing table.
Wardrobe:
The suite includes a single door wardrobe. The top section supports a drop down (detachable) thumb-moulded cornice, above a single door, which boasts a superior quality chamfered mirror. The door also features the original working latch, lock and key, as well as the original geometric brass escutcheon and handle. Either side of the door, the wardrobe frame exhibits inset panels. Below, the base section consists of a single, hand dovetailed and pine lined drawer, which also retains its original working lock and key, and original brass escutcheon and handles. Internally, the wardrobe boasts a generous hanging space, having a single hanging rack. There are also 13 hooks, and a shelf on either side. The wardrobe boasts exquisite grain configuration and ebony detailing to the plinth, drawer front, door and beneath the cornice. The wardrobe is raised on its original moulded plinth. This item also features the original backboards. The wardrobe dismantles into four sections (cornice, top, door and base), allowing easy access up the staircase into the bedroom.
The suite boasts the original polish and patination therefore it has a rich golden pitch pine colour. As it retains the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This suite would certainly grace any bedroom where you are looking to achieve the Victorian or Gothic look. This bedroom suite is in excellent original condition. This is a complete Victorian gothic suite, which is not missing any of its sections. It’s extremely rare to find quality Victorian gothic suites that are complete, which have not had pieces sold off separately and are of this high level of quality. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The drawers all close flush within their frames. The doors do not have any splits in them they all too close flush to the frame and are not warped. The doors retain their original working lever locks (with key) and adjustable locking angle mechanisms. The suite retains its original brass handles and back-plates. The dressing table mirror is original and in good condition, with no chips. The suite boasts the original polish and patination, thus displaying a warm rich colour. The suite is extremely well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use. The quality is reflected in the weight of bedroom suite the individual items are heavy to lift!

Condition This bedroom suite is in excellent original condition. This is a complete Victorian gothic suite, which is not missing any of its sections. It’s extremely rare to find quality Victorian gothic suites that are complete, which have not had pieces sold off separately and are of this high level of quality. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The drawers all close flush within their frames. The doors do not have any splits in them they all too close flush to the frame and are not warped. The doors retain their original working lever locks (with key) and adjustable locking angle mechanisms. The suite retains its original brass handles and back-plates. The dressing table mirror is original and in good condition, with no chips. The suite boasts the original polish and patination, thus displaying a warm rich colour. The suite is extremely well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use. The quality is reflected in the weight of bedroom suite the individual items are heavy to lift!
