Victorian Gillows Oak Partners Pedestal Desk
A super Victorian small partners desk in golden quarter sawn oak and attributed to Gillows. With a rectangular top with inset red burgundy leatherette writing surface and further removeable writing flap enclosed within the central drawer it features chamfered edges in the Gothic style and distinctive golden medillary rays in the grain. It can be used with all nine drawers to one side and nine dummy/false drawers to the other side, or one or both pedestals can be reversed so there are a mixture of opening and dummy drawers to each side. It has brass locks and key liners to all the drawers and original turned knob handles whilst concealed castors ease moving it once assembled.
Sympathetically repolished to a warm golden colour and finished with a traditional wax, it is in good solid condition and has a working key. The red leatherette is in excellent condition however the leatherette on the writing flap is the original and as such is faded and worn although still useable. The bottom edge of the central drawer is worn and rounded and some of the other drawers have lost their corners and similarly there is chip to the base of a handle. The veneer between the top two false drawers on the rear left pedestal is missing so the divider between the two drawers appears darker. There has been some filling done where there have been losses to the veneers on the bottom edges of the pedestals.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos.
The overall dimensions at the largest points are approximately
Width - 56in / 4ft 8in (142cm)
Depth - 31 ¾in (80.5cm)
Height - 31 ½in (80cm)
For transportation and moving this desk splits into three sections.
Ref: 0405 Please appreciate all our items are antique and as such may have minor scratches, marks, knocks, shrinkage splits signs of old woodworm, and minor losses to veneer, which combine with care and years of polishing to create an individual character and patina. We cannot describe each marks separately and therefore suggest you do take the time to request extra photos. We do offer a 14 day money back guarantee for UK purchases but cannot refund the return shipping cost.
