A rare find and the largest we have had of this type. The letter opener is made from period Tortoiseshell with stunning markings and colours from golden Champagne to rich chocolate brown.

Of course, what makes this a rare and highly collectable piece is the handle, made from solid English silver with enamel. The handle is, of course, a perpetual calendar changed by the little wheel, moved to line up the day with the date the S for Sunday is red, rather than blue, and crossed through, as a day of rest.

The silver is hallmarked for Birmingham 1933 together with the makers mark for G W Lewis & Co.

Excellent condition measuring 9 5/8" x 1" x 3/4".
