Sheraton period Sheraton desk armchair side

This mahogany armchair is Georgian, dating to 1790. What is interesting about the chair is its design. The vertical reeding on the mid and top rail is classically Sheraton design. Sheraton was an incredibly neat designer. Everything is about emphasizing straight lines and sharp right angles. He was also one of the first designers to use ebony stringing. The chair legs and back risers and arms are lined in ebony with smart boxwood detailing to the top of the front legs.
It is unusual to get a Sheraton designed piece of antique furniture from the time when Sheraton was designing. This armchair is a little beauty. It has a drop in green velvet seat. It has turned arm supports and a curved seat. There is a lot of quality in this chair. The mahogany is particularly dense. It is a heavy robust chair.
The armchair is in good antique condition. Joints good. No sign of damage or repair. The velvet is old but clean. As this is a drop in seat it would be easy to tack over a material in keeping with your furnishings.
This is a wonderful armchair. It would look good and would be very usable as a desk chair in a well appointed home study or library.
The seat is 19 inches high and the back is 34.5 inches high and it is 22 inches from outside arm to outside arm.
