Regency Toleware Tray. Hand painted Japanned ware
This is a very pretty example of a late Georgian / Regency Jappaned Toleware Tray.
It is neoclassical in design, having a simple octagonal shape, and has a border of anthemion motifs, all of which were very well suited to the fine lines and elegant antique furniture of the period.
Beautifully hand painted with a bold display of Peonies, Fuschias, and Roses set against a velvet black background.
Condition: Very good indeed. Some small scratches and chips to the jappaned surface commensurate with age. There is no damage or dents to the tray itself.
Dimensions: 56cm x 41cm x 4cm deep
Background design information:
Jappaned ware such as this was very popular in the late 18th Century and early part of the 19th Century, and Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Bilston were major centres of the industry. ALL OF OUR ITEMS INCLUDE FREE UK MAINLAND DELIVERY.
