Regency Period Upholstered Wingback Armchair c1820

The beautifully shaped, generously proportioned and fully upholstered button back armchair in moss green with rope twist piping, the mahogany frame standing on very finely carved and turned baluster shaped octagonal front legs with rear sabre legs having the original brass castors surviving from early nineteenth century England.
The condition is clean and sound with no restoration or repair needed or required, the later upholstery, probably mid twentieth century, is of good quality though slightly tired and partly faded, though no more than nicely worn in, with one or two very small areas of wear with the legs strong and the castors original. She is ever so slightly wobbly but one doesn’t really expect anything less. There are some marking to the rear sabre legs but as a whole she could be described as good to very good. The kilim cushion shown in some of the pictures is not included, but could be, at an extra cost of £95.
The original purpose of wing backed armchairs was understood to be to prevent drafts in old houses from reaching ones upper body or to protect the delicate skin of gentrified ladies from the heat of a roaring fire.
Timeless and modern, dramatic and refined, elegant and majestic.
