This is delightful hand painted and scumble grained pine chest by Jas. Shoolbred and company in nice original condition dating from around 1870.
James Shoolbred and Co. were established in the 1820s in Tottenham Court Road London originally as a drapers supplying the antique furniture trade. Around 1860 they began designing and manufacturing their own high quality antique furniture. Their sophisticated designs referenced Regency aesthetics which were influenced by antique Greek or Roman styling. The company was granted a Royal Warrant in 1880 as testament to the quality of their furniture.
This charming chest has nice proportions measuring 100 cms high 46 cms deep by 96 cms high.
