Pair Of Tall 19th Century Cast Brass Candlesticks
This is a tall and very elegant pair of 19th century cast brass candlesticks.
Each has been cast in 2 pieces with cut screw threads to lock the stem and base together. (Not interchangeable)
These are beautifully crafted candlesticks with heavy cast and spun based, crisp edges and clean cut detail.
Quality brass. Deeply patinated bases.
This style of candlestick, unsurprisingly perhaps, has been popular through the ages, and have been made over a long span of time.
In Ronald Michaelis's 'gospel' - Old Domestic Base-Metal Candlesticks (Highly recommended) an almost identical early 18th C example is shown, Figure 170, and the inspiration for these date back even further.
Similar models again have been quite faithfully reproduced by Peerage in the early 20th C.
This pair are between the 2 in the time line, and probably date to the second half of the 19th Century.
