No11082
A Pair of George III Period Gunmetal oval base ejector candlesticks with vase shaped columns and dished drip pans
Circa 1780
Price :£ 475-00p.
Height:7.5”,18.5 cms, Width:4.5”,11.5 cms, Depth:3.5”,9 cms.
Note: Gunmetal is different from Brass as it has a higher copper content which gives it a slightly “pinker” colour compared to the gold colour of Brass.
Proportions vary but 88% copper, 8–10% tin, and 2–4% zinc is an approximation. Originally used chiefly for making guns and ordnance. This was later replaced for weapons with steel.
The composition of brass is generally 66% copper and 34% zinc.
