Original Cinema Listings Poster Looe Cornwall 1937
A wonderful rare, original Cinema listings poster from The Little Cinema, East Looe, Cornwall in 1937. This cinema first opened by at least 1925 on the ground floor of the Guildhall (also known as the Town Hall) with just 178 seats. It was operated by Leon Lennard. In the late 1920’s it was renamed, the little cinema. A small foyer building, attached to the Guildhall, acted as an entrance to the Little Cinema which resembled an Eastern Pavilion. By the outbreak of World War II, Edwin Pearn, who also acquired the Pavilion Cinema, had taken over. Curiously, the seating capacity dipped to 150 in the mid-late 1930’s, then went up to 170 in the late 1940’s. Sadly, Mr. Pearn died in 1949, and the Little Cinema closed. The building continues to provide a home to a number of businesses, including an indoor market in a room previously occupied by the Little Cinema.
This original poster’s special features include Get Fit, Emperor’s Candlesticks, The Hit Parade, Topper, Calling All Stars, The Live Wire, Broadway Melody of 1938, Captains courageous. It is beautifully decorated with red illustrated boarder and red and blue lettering. This poster measures 76cm x 25cm.
